Direct Plant Infusion

Direct plant infusion is a method for delivering a liquid solution directly into a plant’s tissues or vascular system, allowing researchers to study transport and physiological responses under controlled conditions. The infused solution moves through exposed or penetrated vascular pathways, particularly the xylem, where transpiration-driven flow can distribute water, nutrients, dyes, or experimental compounds throughout the plant. In biology, this approach can bypass root uptake and help distinguish transport-related effects from soil or microbial influences. Applications include investigating vascular function, chemical movement, nutrient delivery, plant signaling, and responses to environmental stress, making it useful for both experimental physiology and plant-based biotechnology.

Direct Stereotaxic Brain Infusion of Amyloid-Beta Proteins for an Alzheimer's Disease Model

2025

This video demonstrates the precise stereotaxic infusion of amyloid beta into the dentate gyrus to establish a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. Accurate coordinate determination and controlled delivery of amyloid beta proteins result in neuronal degradation, disrupting memory processing and contributing to Alzheimer's disease development.

Transmitting Plant Viruses Using Whiteflies

Improving our understanding of and our ability to manage many of the insect-transmitted plant viruses requires the use of the vector. Insect transmission of plant viruses is a tritrophic interaction, and as such requires the manipulation of insects, virus, and plant. Vectors must be reared in large numbers and manipulated in such a way as to insure high rates of transmission to test plants. The basics of rearing and manipulating the whitefly, Bemisa tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), a vector of...
