Glycerol Release

Glycerol release is the liberation of glycerol from glycerol-containing lipids or cellular metabolic pathways, making it an important indicator of lipid breakdown and energy use in biology. During lipolysis, adipose-tissue lipases hydrolyze triacylglycerols into free fatty acids and glycerol; because adipocytes have limited capacity to reuse glycerol, the molecule enters the bloodstream and is transported mainly to the liver, where it can support glycerol-3-phosphate formation and gluconeogenesis. Measuring glycerol release helps researchers assess lipolytic activity, investigate energy homeostasis, and study metabolic changes associated with fasting, exercise, hormones, and disease.

Archimedes-Based Glycerol Displacement for Electrode Porosity Measurement in Lead-Acid Batteries

2026

Here, we present a simple and low-cost glycerol displacement method based on Archimedes' principle for measuring lead-acid battery electrode porosities. The method demonstrates good reproducibility and is safer than traditional techniques, requiring low-hazard chemicals and equipment. Combining the technique with microstructural analysis by X-ray diffraction provides information on battery electrode properties and degradation.

Electrospun Fibrous Scaffolds of Poly(glycerol-dodecanedioate) for Engineering Neural Tissues From Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells

Energy-releasing Steps of Glycolysis

2019

Glycolysis is divided into two phases based on whether energy is utilized or released. While the first phase consumes ATP, the second phase produces energy in the form of ATP and NADH. The energy is released over a sequence of reactions that turns G3P into pyruvate. The energy-releasing phase—steps 6-10 of glycolysis—occurs twice, once for each of the two 3-carbon sugars produced during steps 1-5 of the first phase. The first energy-releasing step—the 6th step of glycolysis —consists of two...

Inhibitors Of Virion Release

2026

Viral replication and dissemination rely on efficient mechanisms for host cell entry, genome replication, assembly, and release. Influenza viruses, such as types A and B, are negative-sense single-stranded RNA viruses with a segmented genome, that depend on two critical surface glycoproteins to carry out these processes: hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). HA initiates infection by binding to sialic acid residues on the surface of host epithelial cells, facilitating receptor-mediated...
