Frequency Component Analysis

Frequency Component Analysis is a signal-processing method that separates a complex time-varying signal into its constituent frequencies, helping researchers identify patterns that may be hidden in the original recording. It commonly uses Fourier-based transformations to represent a signal as a combination of sinusoidal components, each characterized by its frequency, amplitude, and phase. In biology, this approach supports analysis of rhythmic activity in data such as neural recordings, heart signals, muscle activity, and physiological cycles. Comparing frequency components can reveal oscillations, distinguish signal features from noise, and clarify how biological systems change across conditions or experimental treatments.

2011

There are technical obstacles to measuring current flux through multiple ion channels simultaneously, and later discerning what portion of the transmembrane current is due to each channel type. To address this need, this method presents a way to generate the IV curve of individual channel types using specific frequency components.

2023

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The objective of this experiment is to achieve hands-on experience with different magnetic components from design and material perspectives. This experiment covers B-H curves of magnetic material and inductor design through identifying unknown design factors. The B-H curve of a magnetic element, such as an inductor or transformer, is a characteristic of the magnetic material forming the core around...

2008

The light microscope is a basic tool for the cell biologist, who should have a thorough understanding of how it works, how it should be aligned for different applications, and how it should be maintained as required to obtain maximum image-forming capacity and resolution. The components of the microscope are described in detail here.
