Gfp Mg53 Transfection

GFP-MG53 transfection is a molecular biology method that introduces cells to genetic material encoding MG53 fused to green fluorescent protein (GFP), allowing researchers to monitor this membrane-repair protein in living cells. During transfection, a plasmid carrying the GFP-MG53 construct enters target cells, where cellular machinery transcribes and translates the inserted sequence to produce a fluorescent fusion protein. GFP fluorescence enables visualization of MG53 localization, movement, and recruitment to damaged membranes, while functional assays can assess membrane repair. This approach supports studies of cell injury, protein trafficking, muscle biology, and mechanisms underlying tissue regeneration and membrane stability.

An Introduction to Transfection

2023

Transfection is the process of inserting genetic material, such as DNA and double stranded RNA, into mammalian cells. The insertion of DNA into a cell enables the expression, or production, of proteins using the cells own machinery, whereas insertion of RNA into a cell is used to down-regulate the production of a specific protein by stopping translation. While the site of action for transfected RNA is the cytoplasm, DNA must be transported to the nucleus for effective transfection. There, the...

TALEN-mediated gene editing at the safe harbor AAVS1 locus enables high-efficiency transgene addition in human iPSCs. This protocol describes the procedures for preparing iPSCs for TALEN and donor vector delivery, transfecting iPSCs, and selecting and isolating iPSC clones to achieve targeted integration of a GFP gene to generate reporter lines.

Neuronal Transfection Methods

2023

Transfection - the process of transferring genetic material into cells - is a powerful tool for the rapid and efficient manipulation of gene expression in cells. Because this method can be used to silence the expression of specific proteins or to drive the expression of foreign or modified proteins, transfection is an extremely useful tool in the study of the cellular and molecular processes that govern neuron function. However, mature neurons have a number of properties that make them...
