Gfp-tagged Beta Cells

GFP-tagged beta cells are pancreatic insulin-producing cells engineered to express green fluorescent protein (GFP), allowing researchers to identify and monitor them through fluorescence. Typically, a GFP gene is fused to a beta-cell protein or placed under a beta-cell-specific promoter, so the cells produce GFP and emit green light when exposed to specific excitation wavelengths. This labeling supports live-cell imaging, cell tracking, lineage studies, and analysis of beta-cell development, survival, and organization. In diabetes research, GFP-tagged beta cells help investigators examine insulin-producing cell behavior and evaluate how genetic changes, drugs, or environmental conditions affect beta-cell function.

Source: Bouillier, C. et. al., Amplification, and Titration of Recombinant Respiratory Syncytial Viruses. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the generation of a green fluorescent protein (GFP)-expressing recombinant respiratory syncytial virus using a T7-based reverse genetics system. The co-transfection of plasmids encoding viral proteins and a GFP-tagged genome leads to protein expression and initiates virus rescue.
