Glucometer Usage

Glucometer usage is the process of measuring blood glucose concentration with a handheld meter, providing a rapid indicator of carbohydrate metabolism and an important tool for diabetes management. The user applies a small capillary blood sample, typically obtained by lancing a fingertip, to a disposable test strip; glucose reacts with chemicals on the strip, generating an electrical signal that the meter converts into a concentration reading. Accurate results depend on proper hand hygiene, adequate sample volume, compatible strips, and correct meter operation. In biology and clinical research, glucometers support glucose monitoring, metabolic studies, treatment decisions, and assessment of physiological responses.

The prediction of the coreceptor usage of HIV-1 is required for the administration of a new class of antiretroviral drugs, i.e. coreceptor antagonists. It can be performed by sequence analysis of the env gene and subsequent interpretation through an internet based interpretation system (geno2pheno[coreceptor]).
