Hek293 Cell Culture

HEK293 cell culture is the laboratory cultivation of human embryonic kidney-derived cells, enabling researchers to maintain a reproducible mammalian cell system for biological studies. In sterile nutrient medium, these adherent cells attach to a treated surface, proliferate under controlled temperature and carbon dioxide conditions, and are passaged before reaching excessive density to preserve healthy growth. Their straightforward handling and capacity for recombinant protein expression make HEK293 cell culture useful for gene regulation research, viral vector production, transfection studies, and preliminary drug testing. This model supports investigation of cellular mechanisms and provides a practical platform for biotechnology and biomedical applications.

Laboratory-scale production of eukaryotic proteins with appropriate post-translational modification represents a significant barrier. Here is a robust protocol with rapid establishment and turnaround for protein expression using a mammalian expression system. This system supports selective amino acid, selective labeling of proteins and small molecule modulators of glycan composition.

The molecular mechanisms that co-ordinate the formation of inhibitory GABAergic synapses during ontogeny are largely unknown. To study these processes,we have developed a co-culture model system which incorporates embryonic medium spiny GABAergic neurons cultured together with stably transfected human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells expressing functional GABAA receptors.
