Hybridoma Cell Culture

Hybridoma cell culture is a method for growing fused immune cells that produce a single, highly specific monoclonal antibody, making it important for research, diagnosis, and therapy development. It begins by combining antibody-producing B lymphocytes with immortal myeloma cells, often using polyethylene glycol, then selecting successfully fused hybrid cells in hypoxanthine-aminopterin-thymidine (HAT) medium. Individual hybridomas are screened for the desired antibody and expanded under controlled culture conditions to provide a renewable source of consistent antibody. This approach supports antigen detection, immunoassays, protein purification, disease studies, and the development of targeted treatments.
