Image Processing Pipeline

An image processing pipeline is an ordered sequence of computational steps that converts raw images into improved, measurable, or interpretable data, supporting reproducible analysis in biology and other fields. It typically begins with image acquisition and preprocessing, such as calibration, noise reduction, and contrast adjustment, then uses segmentation to separate cells, tissues, or structures from the background before extracting features for measurement or classification. In biological research, pipelines can quantify cell number, morphology, fluorescence intensity, or spatial organization across microscopy images, helping researchers compare experimental conditions, automate analysis, and reduce observer bias while preserving a traceable path from image data to scientific conclusions.
