Loop Model

The Loop Model is a conceptual framework that represents biological processes as recurring sequences in which outputs influence later stages or return to earlier ones. It typically uses connected steps, variables, and feedback relationships to show how positive or negative feedback can regulate a system’s behavior over time. In biology, loop models help explain homeostasis, gene regulation, cell signaling, and other processes in which interactions produce stable states, oscillations, or amplification. By simplifying complex relationships into testable pathways, the model supports the interpretation of experimental data and the development of hypotheses about how biological systems respond to changing conditions.

Mouse Ileal Loop Model: A Surgical Model to Study Intestinal Permeability in the Mouse

2025

This video demonstrates the generation of an ileal loop model to study intestinal permeability in a mouse model. This method provides a live model to understand the epithelial barrier function and consequent immune response.

Catheterization of Intestinal Loops in Ruminants

We describe a novel surgical method for catheterizing 'intestinal loops' within the ileum of sheep. Once animals have recovered from surgery and have cleared antibiotics and analgesics, multiple treatments can be deposited directly in loops via the catheters.

The Arteriovenous (AV) Loop in a Small Animal Model to Study Angiogenesis and Vascularized Tissue Engineering

We describe a microsurgical approach for the generation of an arteriovenous (AV) loop as a model for analyzing vascularization in vivo in an isolated and well-characterized environment. This model is not only useful for the investigation of angiogenesis, but is also optimally suited for engineering axially vascularized and transplantable tissues.

2025

In this video, we describe a surgical procedure to generate mouse proximal colon loop or pcLoop segment followed by intraluminal injection of fluorescent markers into the segment to study the intestinal epithelial permeability.
