Magnetoreception Navigation

Magnetoreception navigation is the biological ability of animals to detect Earth’s magnetic field and use it for orientation and movement. Proposed mechanisms include light-sensitive cryptochrome proteins that form magnetically influenced radical pairs in the retina, as well as magnetite-containing receptors that respond to field direction or intensity; some species may also use magnetic inclination as a compass cue. This sensory system supports migration, homing, and daily navigation in birds, sea turtles, fish, insects, and other animals. Studying magnetoreception connects sensory biology with ecology and animal behavior, while revealing how organisms maintain direction when visual, chemical, or geographic landmarks are limited.

Dynamic navigation systems (DNS) provide real-time visualization and guidance to the operator during endodontic access cavities preparation. The planning of the procedure requires three-dimensional imaging utilizing cone beam computed tomography and surface scans. After the export of the planning data to the DNS, access cavities can be prepared with minimal invasion.
