Molecular Mobility

Molecular mobility is the movement and rearrangement of molecules within cells, tissues, or other biological environments, and it strongly influences how biological systems function. It arises from thermal motion, diffusion, molecular collisions, and interactions with surrounding structures such as membranes, cytoskeletal networks, and macromolecular complexes. In biology, molecular mobility governs processes including membrane organization, intracellular transport, enzyme-substrate encounters, signal transduction, and exchange of metabolites across compartments. Measuring changes in mobility with methods such as fluorescence recovery after photobleaching, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, or nuclear magnetic resonance helps researchers assess molecular interactions, characterize cellular organization, and understand how disease or environmental conditions alter cellular behavior.

Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA)

2023

The electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) is a biochemical procedure used to elucidate binding between proteins and nucleic acids. In this assay a radiolabeled nucleic acid and test protein are mixed. Binding is determined via gel electrophoresis which separates components based on mass, charge, and conformation. This video shows the concepts of EMSA and a general procedure, including gel and protein preparation, binding, electrophoresis, and detection. Applications covered in this video...

Molecular beam epitaxy is used to grow N-polar InAlN-barrier high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs). Control of the wafer preparation, layer growth conditions and epitaxial structure results in smooth, compositionally homogeneous InAlN layers and HEMTs with mobility as high as 1,750 cm2/V∙sec.

Mobile Marketing

2024

As consumers increasingly rely on smartphones and other mobile devices for browsing, communication, and shopping, mobile marketing has become essential in today's digital world. Brands must adjust their strategies to engage users where they spend most of their time, which is on mobile screens. Understanding mobile user behavior is crucial for successful mobile marketing. Mobile users typically interact with their devices briefly and frequently throughout the day. They prefer content that is...

Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay for Detection of Transcription Factor-DNA Complexes

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the electrophoretic mobility shift assay to detect protein-DNA interactions using infrared fluorescent-labeled DNA probes. When the protein binds to the DNA probe, it forms a large complex that migrates slowly on and appears as a shifted band on the gel.

Using a Cyclic Ion Mobility Spectrometer for Tandem Ion Mobility Experiments

Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) is an interesting complement to mass spectrometry for the characterization of biomolecules, notably because it is sensitive to isomerism. This protocol describes a tandem IMS (IMS/IMS) experiment, which allows the isolation of a molecule and the generation of the mobility profiles of its fragments.
