Neutral Protease Harvesting

Neutral protease harvesting is the recovery and preparation of neutral protease, an enzyme that cleaves peptide bonds most effectively near neutral pH, from a biological production system. The process typically begins with microbial fermentation, followed by removal of cells and insoluble material, clarification of the liquid, and concentration or purification of the enzyme under conditions that preserve catalytic activity. In biology and biotechnology, efficient harvesting improves enzyme yield, stability, and consistency for downstream study or use. The resulting protease can support investigations of protein degradation and serve as a biocatalyst in applications such as food processing, detergents, and other industrial workflows.

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for generating escape variants of neutralizing influenza virus monoclonal antibodies. Antibody-neutralized virus suspension is injected into embryonated chicken eggs to propagate escape variants selectively. This results in a virus population predominantly of escape variants, confirmed via a Hemagglutination assay.
