Obstetrics Gynecology

Obstetrics and gynecology is a medical specialty that addresses pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, and the health of the female reproductive system, linking human biology with clinical medicine. In obstetric care, clinicians assess coordinated maternal and fetal physiological changes across gestation, labor, delivery, and recovery, while gynecologic evaluation uses history, physical examination, imaging, and laboratory testing to identify abnormalities in reproductive organs and function. These approaches support prenatal surveillance, contraception, fertility care, cancer screening, and treatment of reproductive and pregnancy-related conditions. Studying obstetrics and gynecology helps biologists and healthcare professionals understand reproductive physiology and improve outcomes for patients and newborns.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) involves image-guided, ablative radiation delivered to cancer targets refractory to chemotherapy or to conventional radiation treatment. The robotic-armed Cyberknife SBRT system, using sophisticated target localization, delivers hypofractionated radiation doses capable of sterilizing cancer targets. This article will consider new therapeutic roles of SBRT for gynecological cancers.
