Organoid Expansion

Organoid expansion is the controlled growth and propagation of three-dimensional, self-organizing cell cultures that model key features of tissues and organs. In a supportive extracellular matrix, stem or progenitor cells receive defined growth factors and culture signals that promote proliferation, lineage maintenance, and organization; researchers periodically passage and re-embed the organoids to increase their number. In biology, this approach provides renewable material for studying development, tissue architecture, and disease mechanisms. Expanded organoids also support drug screening, toxicity testing, personalized disease modeling, and research into regenerative medicine, while helping investigators examine human biology in systems that can complement animal models.

Source: J. Jacob Chavez, Ryan T. Davis, and Taylor D. Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Thermal expansion is extremely important when considering which materials will be used in systems that experience fluctuations in temperature. A high or low thermal expansion in a material may or may not be desirable, depending on the application. For instance, in a common liquid thermometer, a material with a high thermal expansion would be...

CRC Organoid Culture: A Method to Obtain 3D Organoids from Colorectal Cancer Cells
