Personalized Medicine

Personalized medicine is an approach to healthcare that uses individual biological and clinical characteristics to guide disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. It integrates information such as genetic variation, molecular biomarkers, lifestyle, and medical history to identify differences in disease risk and predict how a person may respond to a particular intervention. In biology, this approach supports research into disease mechanisms, patient classification, and targeted therapies, including treatments selected for specific molecular features. By replacing uniform treatment strategies with data-informed decisions, personalized medicine can improve therapeutic effectiveness, reduce adverse effects, and advance more precise approaches to managing complex diseases.

Combination Therapies and Personalized Medicine

2021

Combining two or more treatment methods increases the life span of cancer patients while reducing damage to vital organs or tissue from the overuse of a single treatment. Combination therapy also targets different cancer-inducing pathways, thus reducing the chances of developing resistance to treatment. The combination of the drug acetazolamide and sulforaphane is a good example of combination therapy to treat cancer. The cells in the interior of a large tumor often die due to the hypoxic and...
