Remission

Remission is a period when the signs, symptoms, or measurable activity of a disease decrease or disappear, either partially or completely. In biology and medicine, it reflects reduced disease activity rather than necessarily indicating that the underlying condition has been eliminated; remission may arise when treatment suppresses pathogenic processes or when the body restores regulatory control over them. Clinicians and researchers use remission status to evaluate therapeutic response, monitor disease progression, and distinguish stable control from relapse. Studying the biological changes associated with remission can guide treatment decisions and improve long-term management of chronic and recurring diseases.

We describe the generation of far-infrared radiation using an optically pumped molecular laser along with the measurement of their frequencies with heterodyne techniques. The experimental system and techniques are demonstrated using difluoromethane (CH2F2) as the laser medium whose results include three new laser emissions and eight measured laser frequencies.

Electrospun scaffolds can be processed post production for tissue engineering applications. Here we describe methods for spinning complex scaffolds (by consecutive spinning), for making thicker scaffolds (by multi-layering using heat or vapour annealing), for achieving sterility (aseptic production or sterilisation post production) and for achieving appropriate biomechanical properties.
