Fasting Plasma Glucose

Fasting plasma glucose is the concentration of glucose in blood measured after a period without food, providing a standardized indicator of glucose metabolism and metabolic health. During fasting, the liver releases glucose through glycogen breakdown and gluconeogenesis, while insulin and glucagon help maintain blood glucose within a functional range. In biology and clinical research, this measurement supports the assessment of glucose homeostasis, insulin regulation, and diabetes risk. Repeated fasting plasma glucose tests can also help evaluate metabolic changes over time and assess responses to diet, exercise, or other interventions.
