Su-8 Master Mold

An SU-8 master mold is a patterned relief structure used to replicate microscale features in materials such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), supporting the fabrication of devices for biological research. To create it, a thick SU-8 epoxy photoresist is spin-coated onto a substrate, selectively exposed to ultraviolet light through a photomask, and post-exposure baked to crosslink the illuminated regions; development removes the uncrosslinked resist. The resulting mold defines channels, chambers, or other microstructures when liquid PDMS is cast and cured against it. These molds enable reproducible microfluidic platforms for cell culture, tissue engineering, diagnostics, and studies of cellular behavior under controlled conditions.
