Survival Percentage Calculation

Survival percentage calculation is a quantitative method for expressing the proportion of organisms, cells, or other biological subjects that remain alive after a defined period or experimental condition. It is determined by dividing the number of survivors by the initial population or number tested, then multiplying the result by 100: Survival percentage = (survivors ÷ initial number) × 100. In biology, this measure supports comparisons among treatment groups, environmental conditions, developmental stages, or time points, helping researchers assess mortality, stress tolerance, treatment effects, and population changes. Accurate counts and consistent observation intervals are essential for meaningful interpretation.

The price elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of the quantity demanded of a good or service to changes in its price. For instance, consider a family that typically purchases 6 cartons of milk every month when the price is $4 per carton. However, when the price increases to $5 per carton, they reduce their consumption to 5 cartons. The first step to calculate the price elasticity of demand is determining the percentage change in quantity demanded. This can be calculated as (5-6)/6...

2023

This video introduces a short-term survival assay that tests a treatment for acute toxicity or tests a genetic strain for resistance to a toxic condition. The example protocol shows an example survival assay in which worms are tested for their ability to resist oxidative stress induced by paraquat (PQ).

A percentage frequency distribution, in general, is a display of data that indicates the percentage of observations for each data point or grouping of data points. It is a commonly used method for expressing the relative frequency of survey responses and other data. The percentage frequency distributions are often displayed as bar graphs, pie charts, or tables. The process of making a percentage frequency distribution involves the following few steps: note the total number of observations;...

Elasticity of Supply Through Percentage Method

2024

The elasticity of supply (Es) quantifies how responsive the quantity supplied is to changes in price. It is calculated as the ratio of the percentage change in quantity supplied to the percentage change in price. For example, if the price of a product increases by 10%, and as a result, the quantity supplied increases by 20%, the Es would be 2 (20% change in quantity supplied divided by 10% change in price). This method helps determine whether supply is elastic, inelastic, or unit elastic. If...
