Vesicle Membrane Protein

A vesicle membrane protein is embedded in or associated with the membrane of an intracellular transport vesicle, where it helps coordinate cargo movement and communication between organelles. Its transmembrane domains anchor it in the lipid bilayer, while cytoplasmic regions can interact with coat proteins, Rab GTPases, motor proteins, or tethering factors that regulate vesicle formation, transport, and target-membrane recognition. During fusion, complementary SNARE proteins bring vesicle and target membranes together, enabling cargo release and membrane recycling. Studying these proteins clarifies secretion, endocytosis, and organelle maintenance while supporting research into neurological disease, infection, and engineered delivery systems.

(2016)This study demonstrates a fluorescence-based assay to observe the membrane-binding behavior of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 structural protein. Using synthetic giant unilamellar vesicles as model membranes, the assay visualizes protein recruitment and assembly, mimicking early steps of viral particle formation.

Reconstitution of Membrane Proteins

2023

Reconstitution is the process of returning an isolated biomolecule to its original form or function. This is particularly useful for studying membrane proteins, which enable important cellular functions and affect the behavior of nearby lipids. To study the function of purified membrane proteins in situ, they must be reconstituted by integrating them into an artificial lipid membrane. This video introduces membrane protein reconstitution concepts and related procedures, such as protein...
