Mouse Brain Model

A mouse brain model is an experimental system that reproduces selected features of the brain environment in mice to study normal biology, disease, and tumor behavior. In cancer research, investigators typically introduce tumor cells into the mouse brain or examine tumors that metastasize there, allowing cancer cells to interact with neural, vascular, and immune components while researchers track growth, invasion, and treatment response. These models help clarify how the brain microenvironment influences glioblastoma and metastatic cancer, support evaluation of drug delivery and therapeutic strategies, and connect molecular findings with measurable changes in tumor progression and survival.

Athletes absorb several hundred mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI)/concussions every year; however, the consequence of these on the brain is poorly understood. Therefore, an animal model of single and repetitive mTBI that consistently replicates clinically relevant symptoms provides the means to advance the study of mTBI and concussion.

Brain Metastasis Mouse Model: A Method to Generate Brain Metastasis Mouse Model by Intracarotid Cancer Cell Injection

2025

This video demonstrates the establishment of a brain metastasis mouse model by intracarotid injection of fluorescently labeled cancer cells. The mouse model can be used to study the effects of novel therapeutics and the underlying physiological mechanisms.

We performed unilateral carotid artery occlusion on postnatal day 7-10 CD-1 mouse pups to create a neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) model and investigated the effects of HI brain injury. We studied neurobehavioral functions in these mice compared to non-operated normal mice.

Generating a Traumatic Brain Injury Mouse Model Using an Impactor Probe

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing an open-skull traumatic brain injury in a mouse by making a midline skull incision, drilling through the skull and removing the bone flap to expose the brain cortex, and applying high pressure to induce trauma. The wound is then sutured to prepare the mouse model for subsequent experiments.
