Tumor Diameter

Tumor diameter is the linear distance across a tumor, usually reported as its largest measurable dimension, and it provides a standardized indicator of tumor burden. Researchers determine it with calipers in experimental models or by measuring lesions in medical images and pathology specimens, using consistent anatomical planes and measurement conditions. In cancer research, repeated diameter measurements help track tumor growth, assess responses to treatment, compare disease progression, and classify tumors by size. Because diameter represents only one dimension, researchers may interpret it alongside tumor volume, imaging features, molecular data, and clinical outcomes for a more complete evaluation.

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A propeller is a twisted airfoil, where the angle of the chord changes with respect to the location, along the radial station, as shown in Figure 1. Propellers are widely used in aircraft and watercraft propulsion systems thereby necessitating detailed characterizations of propellers to design high performance vehicles. Figure 1. Chord, thickness, and pitch at a radial station. One of...

2018

The polysaccharide capsule is the primary virulence factor in Cryptococcus neoformans, and its size correlates with strain virulence. Capsule diameter measurements are used in phenotypic testing and to gauge therapeutic efficacy. Here a standard method of capsule induction is presented, and two methods of staining and measuring diameter are compared.

The protocol describes a method for creating a patient-derived colorectal cancer (CRC) organoid model co-cultured with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) to study their interactions and therapeutic potential. This model provides a preclinical platform to explore immune responses in the tumor microenvironment and to predict the efficacy of TIL-based therapy for personalized CRC treatment.

Femoral Vascular Graft Implantation in a Swine Model to Test Small-Diameter Vascular Grafts

2025

This study presents a porcine model for evaluating small-diameter grafts in femoral arteries. The model mimics human vascular dynamics and comprehensively assesses graft patency, hemodynamics, and vascular remodeling. It offers a valuable platform for testing vascular grafts and monitoring them with Doppler ultrasound and angiography.
