Electrode Quality Assessment

Electrode quality assessment is the systematic evaluation of an electrode’s physical and electrochemical performance to determine whether it is suitable for reliable chemical measurements. Researchers apply controlled potentials or currents and analyze the resulting responses using methods such as cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and chronoamperometry, which reveal electron-transfer kinetics, capacitive behavior, charge-transfer resistance, stability, and reproducibility. These measurements can identify surface contamination, poor electrical contact, inadequate coating, or electrode degradation. In analytical chemistry and electrochemical research, quality assessment supports dependable sensing, catalysis, energy-storage studies, and comparisons between electrode materials and fabrication methods.

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...
