Esi-msn Analysis

ESI-MS/MS analysis is an analytical technique that combines electrospray ionization with tandem mass spectrometry to identify, characterize, and quantify molecules, making it valuable for studying complex chemical samples. In electrospray ionization, a liquid sample forms charged droplets that shrink as solvent evaporates, releasing gas-phase ions; the instrument then selects precursor ions and fragments them through collision-induced dissociation to produce diagnostic product-ion spectra. In chemistry, ESI-MS/MS supports molecular-weight determination, structural elucidation, and targeted quantification of small molecules, peptides, pharmaceuticals, and other compounds. Its soft ionization and selective fragmentation provide sensitive, chemically informative measurements in mixtures that are difficult to analyze by mass spectrometry alone.

Electrospray Ionization (ESI) Mass Spectrometry

Higher molecular weight biomolecules are nonvolatile compounds that may decompose before ionizing or vaporizing during mass analysis with conventional electron impact ionization methods. Accordingly, electrospray ionization (ESI) is the favored method for vaporizing and ionizing biomolecules as it circumvents rapid fragmentation and enables the recording of mass signals for the entire biomolecule. ESI utilizes electrical energy to transfer ions from the liquid phase of the sample into the...

Electron spectroscopic imaging can image and distinguish nucleic acid from protein at nanometer resolution. It can be combined with the miniSOG system, which is able to specifically label tagged proteins in transmission electron microscopy samples. We illustrate the use of these technologies using double-strand break repair foci as an example.
