Pressure Release Analysis

Pressure release analysis is the systematic evaluation of how pressure changes when a chemical system, vessel, or process is vented or depressurized. It considers gas expansion, fluid flow, temperature changes, and the properties of the substances present to predict pressure decay and potential hazards. In chemistry, this analysis supports the design and assessment of relief devices, reaction vessels, storage systems, and laboratory procedures involving compressed gases or volatile materials. By linking pressure behavior with thermodynamic and physical properties, it helps researchers identify unsafe conditions, select appropriate controls, and improve the reliability of chemical processes.

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

Nozzle Analysis: Variations in Mach Number and Pressure Along a Converging and a Converging-diverging Nozzle

2023

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A nozzle is a device that is commonly used to accelerate or decelerate flow by virtue of its varying cross-section. Nozzles are widely used in aerospace propulsion systems. In rockets, propellant that is ejected from the chamber is accelerated through a nozzle to create a reaction force that propels the system. In jet engines, a nozzle is used to transform energy from a high-pressure...
