Soft Drink Analysis

Soft drink analysis is the chemical characterization of beverages to determine their acidity, carbonation, sugars, caffeine, colorants, preservatives, and other dissolved components. In the laboratory, samples may be degassed before pH measurement and acid-base titration, while techniques such as refractometry, spectrophotometry, and chromatography separate or quantify specific ingredients through changes in light absorption, refractive index, or chemical retention. These measurements help relate formulation to flavor, stability, labeling, and quality control. In chemistry education and research, soft drinks provide accessible samples for studying equilibria, concentration, analytical calibration, and the interactions among acids, dissolved gases, and organic compounds.
