Clinical Procedure

A clinical procedure is a structured intervention performed in a healthcare setting to diagnose, prevent, monitor, or treat a medical condition. It follows a defined sequence that combines patient assessment, informed preparation, appropriate instruments or medications, infection-control measures, and monitoring of physiological responses to support safe and consistent care. Clinical procedures range from blood collection and imaging to surgery, catheter placement, and therapeutic administration, with each requiring specific indications, contraindications, and follow-up. Understanding their principles helps students and researchers evaluate clinical decision-making, reduce procedural risk, assess outcomes, and improve the translation of scientific evidence into patient care.

Cutaneous tumors are often discarded following Mohs micrographic surgery. A protocol is described here that enables clinical support staff to effectively process and store cutaneous tumor (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma) samples for downstream laboratory applications without interfering with clinical operations.

Hypoxia simulation in humans has usually been performed by inhaling hypoxic gas mixtures. For this study, apneic divers were used to simulate dynamic hypoxia in humans. Additionally, physiological changes in desaturation and re-saturation kinetics were evaluated with non-invasive tools such as Near-Infrared-Spectroscopy (NIRS) and peripheral oxygenation saturation (SpO2).
