Patient Interaction

Patient interaction is the communication and relationship-building process between patients and healthcare professionals, and it supports accurate assessment, shared understanding, and respectful care. It works through active listening, clear questioning, observation of verbal and nonverbal cues, and explanations adapted to a patient’s language, concerns, and level of understanding. In clinical settings, effective patient interaction helps professionals gather relevant histories, identify symptoms and preferences, explain diagnoses and treatment options, and encourage informed participation in care. Strong interactions can improve trust, adherence, patient safety, and the quality of clinical decision-making across examinations, consultations, education, and follow-up.
