Foot Care

Foot care is the routine assessment, cleaning, protection, and treatment of the feet to maintain skin integrity, mobility, and comfort, making it an important part of clinical prevention and patient self-management. It combines regular inspection for cracks, blisters, pressure areas, wounds, color changes, or infection with gentle washing and drying, appropriate nail care, moisturization of intact skin, and well-fitting footwear that reduces friction and pressure. In clinical practice, these measures help identify problems early, especially in people with diabetes, reduced sensation, or impaired circulation, while supporting wound prevention, safer mobility, and timely referral when abnormalities require professional evaluation.
