Low Oxygen Inspired Air

Low oxygen inspired air is breathing gas with a reduced fraction of oxygen, creating a hypoxic environment that is important in clinical assessment and respiratory physiology. When the inspired oxygen concentration falls, less oxygen reaches the alveoli, lowering the gradient for diffusion into pulmonary capillary blood and potentially reducing arterial oxygen saturation. Controlled exposure can help evaluate ventilatory and cardiovascular responses, model altitude-related hypoxemia, and assess patient responses during respiratory testing. Understanding these effects supports the interpretation of pulse oximetry and blood-gas measurements, while helping clinicians distinguish impaired oxygen delivery from abnormalities in ventilation, diffusion, or circulation.

2024

Introduction to Inspiration: The Respiratory System in Action The respiratory system, an essential network for breathing, comprises the conducting and respiratory zones, each playing a crucial role in the overall process of respiration. Let us explore the detailed mechanism of inspiration, or inhalation, which is the first phase of the respiratory cycle. Pathway of Air during Inspiration During inspiration, air enters our body through the nose or mouth and moves through the conducting zone,...

We describe experimental details of the synthesis of patterned and reconfigurable particles from two dimensional (2D) precursors. This methodology can be used to create particles in a variety of shapes including polyhedra and grasping devices at length scales ranging from the micro to centimeter scale.

We present an experimental procedure for measuring the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) in cerebral vasculature based on oxygen-dependent quenching of phosphorescence. Animal preparation and imaging procedures were outlined for both large field of view CCD-based imaging of pO2 in rats and 2-photon excitation based imaging of pO2 in mice.

We describe the simplest protocol to prepare biodegradable medical glue that has an effective hemostatic ability. TAPE is a water-immiscible supramolecular aggregate prepared by mixing of tannic acid, a ubiquitous compound found in plants, and poly(ethylene) glycol, yielding a 2.5 times greater water-resistant adhesion compared with commercial fibrin glue.

Dissolved Oxygen in Surface Water

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Dissolved oxygen (DO) measurements calculate the amount of gaseous oxygen dissolved in surface water, which is important to all oxygen-breathing life in river ecosystems, including fish species preferred for human consumption (e.g. bluegill and bass), as well as decomposer species critical to the recycling of biogeochemical materials in the system. The oxygen dissolved in lakes, rivers, and oceans is crucial for the...
