Postural Drainage

Postural drainage is a respiratory therapy technique that uses body positioning and gravity to help move mucus from specific lung segments into larger airways, where it can be cleared. During treatment, the patient assumes targeted positions based on lung anatomy, often combined with deep breathing, coughing, chest percussion, or vibration to mobilize secretions and improve airway clearance. Clinicians use postural drainage for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, and other disorders associated with retained respiratory secretions. By supporting ventilation and reducing mucus obstruction, the technique can improve breathing efficiency and complement broader pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory care.

Acid Mine Drainage

2026

Mining activities that disturb sulfide-rich rocks, particularly those containing pyrite (FeS₂), initiate a cascade of geochemical and microbiological processes with serious environmental implications. When exposed to air and water, pyrite undergoes oxidation, releasing sulfate, ultimately forming sulfuric acid and mobilizing heavy metals into surrounding water systems. This phenomenon, known as acid mine drainage (AMD), results in low pH waters laden with toxic elements that threaten aquatic...

We present a method to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and to create a system which lacks CSF within the embryonic zebrafish brain ventricular system. This allows for further examination of CSF composition and its requirement during embryonic brain development.

Substantiating Appropriate Motion Capture Techniques for the Assessment of Nordic Walking Gait and Posture in Older Adults

The aim was to substantiate optimal use of data collection techniques for Nordic walking gait and posture analysis. Three-dimensional motion capture should be used during short duration analysis (i.e. single gait cycle), while accelerometry should be employed for longer duration analysis (i.e. repeated cycles) like a 6 Minute Walk Test.

Computerized Dynamic Posturography for Postural Control Assessment in Patients with Intermittent Claudication

Individuals with intermittent claudication exhibit poor balance compared to healthy controls. Computerized dynamic posturography is an objective method for measuring an individual's postural responses to balance disturbances. This provides an objective reflection of the person’s ability to respond to situations under which sensory stimuli are altered and unexpected perturbations occur.

Capturing Flow-weighted Water and Suspended Particulates from Agricultural Canals During Drainage Events

Nutrients present in particulate form can contribute significantly to the overall loads in agricultural drainage waters. This study describes a novel method to capture flow-weighted water and suspended particulates from farm canal drainage over the entire duration of the drainage event.
