Bell Parameter Measurement

Bell parameter measurement is an experimental method for quantifying correlations between measurements on separated quantum systems and testing whether they can be explained by local hidden-variable theories. In the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) formulation, researchers measure joint outcomes for four combinations of detector settings, combine the resulting correlation values into the Bell parameter S, and compare it with the local-realistic limit of 2. Quantum systems can exceed this bound, approaching 2√2 under suitable conditions. In engineering, the measurement supports validation of entangled sources, characterization of quantum communication hardware, and assessment of devices designed for quantum sensing and information processing.

The Bell Curve

2025

The normal probability distribution, often depicted as a symmetrical, bell-shaped curve, is fundamental in statistics and the study of natural phenomena. This pattern, famously described by mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, shows how data points are distributed around a central mean, with most values near the average and fewer observations occurring as they deviate further from it. This pattern applies to many human characteristics beyond intelligence, such as height. For example, if you...

A spectrofluorometric protocol for the measurement of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening in isolated mouse heart mitochondria is presented here. The assay involves the simultaneous measurement of mitochondria Ca2+ handling, mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial volume. The procedure for obtaining high-quality and functional heart mitochondria is also described.

The non-nutritive suck (NNS) device can easily collect and quantify NNS features using a pacifier connected to a pressure transducer and recorded through a data acquisition system and laptop. Quantification of NNS parameters can provide valuable insight into a child's current and future neurodevelopment.
