Cathode Characterization

Cathode characterization is the systematic evaluation of cathode materials and performance in electrochemical devices, particularly rechargeable batteries. It combines structural and compositional analysis with electrochemical measurements: charge-discharge cycling quantifies capacity and retention, while cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveal redox behavior, reaction kinetics, and resistance under controlled operating conditions. In engineering, these measurements connect particle morphology, crystal structure, and thermal stability with power capability, energy density, safety, and degradation over repeated use and varying temperatures. The results guide cathode material selection, electrode design, performance optimization, and the development of more reliable energy-storage systems.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The objective of this experiment is to achieve hands-on experience with different magnetic components from design and material perspectives. This experiment covers B-H curves of magnetic material and inductor design through identifying unknown design factors. The B-H curve of a magnetic element, such as an inductor or transformer, is a characteristic of the magnetic material forming the core around...
