Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering is the systematic analysis of an existing product, system, or component to determine how it was designed, how it operates, and how its parts interact. Engineers examine physical structures, software behavior, interfaces, and performance data, then use testing, modeling, measurement, or code analysis to infer the original requirements and design principles. The resulting knowledge supports maintenance of legacy systems, development of compatible components, failure analysis, product improvement, and verification of engineering designs. In software and hardware engineering, reverse engineering also aids interoperability and security assessment by revealing undocumented functions, dependencies, and potential vulnerabilities.

The protocol describes a method for introducing controllable genetic diversity in the hepatitis C virus genome by combining full-length mutant RNA synthesis using error-prone PCR and reverse genetics. The method provides a model for phenotype selection and can be used for 10 kb long positive-sense RNA virus genomes.

We have developed a decellularized lung extracellular matrix and novel biomimetic bioreactor that can be used to generate functional lung tissue. By seeding cells into the matrix and culturing in the bioreactor, we generate tissue that demonstrates effective gas exchange when transplanted in vivo for short periods of time.

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty is indicated for the treatment of conditions that cannot be treated with conventional arthroplasty or other procedures. These primarily include degenerative and incapacitating conditions with irreparable rotator cuff and loss of the normal biomechanical coupling of the shoulder.
