Intraoral Scanner

An intraoral scanner is a handheld optical instrument that captures the three-dimensional geometry of teeth, gingiva, and oral structures, replacing or reducing the need for conventional physical impressions. During scanning, the device illuminates the mouth and records reflected light from successive viewpoints; image-processing algorithms align these frames and reconstruct a digital surface model, often as a polygonal mesh. This combination of optics, sensor design, calibration, and computational reconstruction supports computer-aided design and manufacturing of crowns, aligners, prostheses, and surgical guides, while enabling rapid data transfer, visualization, and quality assessment in digital dentistry and biomedical engineering.

2014

The current study evaluates a novel procedure for assessing the reinforcing effects of palatable solutions in laboratory rats: intraoral self-administration. To this end, operant responding (i.e. lever pressing) for intraoral infusions of sweet solutions at different concentrations was measured on continuous and progressive ratios schedules of reinforcement.

A scanner for imaging magnetic particles in planar samples was developed using the planar frequency mixing magnetic detection technique. The magnetic intermodulation product response from the nonlinear nonhysteretic magnetization of the particles is recorded upon a two-frequency excitation. It can be used to take 2D images of thin biological samples.
