Transmission Profile Matching

Transmission profile matching is an engineering method for comparing and aligning a system’s transmission behavior with a desired or reference profile. It evaluates how signals, energy, or information change as they pass through components, channels, or interfaces across frequency, time, or operating conditions, then adjusts design parameters to reduce mismatch. In communications, electronics, and networked systems, this approach supports channel characterization, calibration, and model validation, while helping improve signal integrity, reduce distortion, and maintain consistent performance. By linking measured responses to design targets, transmission profile matching provides a practical basis for diagnosing system limitations and optimizing engineered transmission paths.

Sign Test for Matched Pairs

2025

The sign test for matched pairs offers a robust method for comparing two paired samples, often for the effects of an intervention in one of them. This method is very useful in situations where the underlying distribution of the data is unknown. The test compares two related samples—often pre- and post-treatment measurements on the same subjects—to determine if there are significant differences in their median values. To conduct the sign test, we first calculate the differences in value between...

Transmission of Multiple Signals through an Optical Fiber Using Wavefront Shaping

2017

We demonstrate the transmission of multiple independent signals through a multimode fiber using wavefront shaping employing a single spatial light modulator. By modulating the wavefront for each signal individually, spatially separated foci are transmitted. Potential applications are multiplexed data transfer in communications engineering and endoscopic light delivery in biophotonics.

An Easy Method for Plant Polysome Profiling

This protocol describes an easy method to extract and fractionate transcripts from plant tissues on the basis of the number of bound ribosomes. It allows a global estimate of translation activity and the determination of the translational status of specific mRNAs.

Expression Profiling with Microarrays

2023

Microarrays are important tools for profiling gene expression, and are based on complementary binding between probes that are attached to glass chips and nucleic acids derived from samples. Using these arrays, scientists can simultaneously evaluate the expression of thousands of genes. In addition, the expression profiles of different cells or tissue types can be compared, allowing researchers to deduce how the expression of different genes change during biological processes, and thus gain...

Non-invasive Assessment of Changes in Corticomotoneuronal Transmission in Humans

2017

The aim of the present study was to assess changes in transmission at the corticomotoneuronal synapses in humans after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. For this purpose, an electrophysiological method is introduced that allows assessment of pathway specific corticospinal transmission, i.e. differentiation of fast, direct corticospinal pathways from polysynaptic connections.
