Variable Frequency Oscillator

A variable frequency oscillator (VFO) is an electronic circuit that generates a periodic electrical signal while allowing its output frequency to be adjusted, making it useful wherever tunable timing or communication channels are required. It sustains oscillation through positive feedback and sets frequency with a frequency-selective network, such as an LC or RC circuit; changing a capacitance, inductance, or control voltage alters the oscillation rate. VFOs support signal generation, radio tuning, frequency synthesis, measurement, and control systems, although temperature and component variations can affect stability. Studying their design links feedback, resonance, tuning range, and frequency stability in practical engineering systems.

2016

High Frequency Oscillations (HFOs) have emerged as presurgical biomarkers for the identification of the epileptogenic zone in pediatric patients with medically refractory epilepsy. A methodology for the noninvasive recording, detection, and localization of HFOs with simultaneous scalp electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) is presented.

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of rhythmic neuronal network activity, also known as theta oscillations, in an isolated hippocampus. Electrodes are inserted into various layers and spatial positions to detect and analyze theta oscillations. This shows the unique neuronal compositions and the connectivity of the neuronal network across different layers of the hippocampus.
