Data Analytics Tool

A data analytics tool is software that collects, organizes, processes, and interprets information to support evidence-based decisions, making complex datasets easier to understand. It typically cleans and integrates data from sources such as sensors, surveys, geographic records, or laboratory measurements, then applies statistical methods, pattern detection, and visualization to reveal trends and relationships. In environmental research, these tools help analyze air and water quality, biodiversity, land-use change, and climate observations. By converting raw measurements into maps, graphs, indicators, and predictive insights, data analytics tools support environmental monitoring, resource management, risk assessment, and evaluation of conservation or pollution-control strategies.

Visual analytics (VA) is a new approach of analyzing data interactively. In this video, we discuss the data overload problem brought on by high-throughput biological experiments, and propose VA as a solution to such problem. The video demonstrates analysis within and between immunological datasets using a VA tool called Tableau.

We developed a software platform that utilizes Imaris Neuroscience, ImarisXT and MATLAB to measure the changes in morphology of an undefined shape taken from three-dimensional confocal fluorescence of single cells. This novel approach can be used to quantify changes in cell shape following receptor activation and therefore represents a possible additional tool for drug discovery.
