Spiral Survey Pattern

A spiral survey pattern is a spatial sampling design in which observations are collected along a route that winds inward toward or outward from a central point, helping characterize environmental conditions across an area. Surveyors follow a planned spiral path while recording measurements such as species presence, habitat features, or changes in soil, vegetation, and other field variables at defined locations. This approach can provide systematic coverage around a focal site and reveal how environmental patterns vary with distance from a source, center, or disturbance. It is useful in ecological monitoring, habitat assessment, pollution studies, and field-based environmental research.

Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people. Surveys allow researchers to gather data from larger samples than may be afforded by...

Label-Free Neutrophil Separation from Tracheal Secretion Using Spiral Microfluidics Channel

2025

This video demonstrates separating neutrophils from tracheal secretions using a microfluidic device with spiral channels. The device achieves efficient separation based on cell size by utilizing varying thicknesses and trapezoidal-shaped channels. The interplay between forces results in large neutrophils accumulating near the inner wall while erythrocytes and mucin aggregates remain near the outer wall, ensuring effective neutrophil separation.

Culturing Murine Spiral Ganglion Neuron Explants on Multielectrode Arrays

This video demonstrates the process for isolating spiral ganglion explants from the inner ear and co-culturing them with the organ of Corti on a multielectrode array. Spiral ganglia are carefully extracted and sectioned into smaller tissue sections or explants. These explants are cultured on the multielectrode array's active area to promote neuronal process outgrowth.

Introduction to Surveying, Plane Surveying and Geodetic Surveys

2025

Surveying is the art and science of mapping the earth's surface. It involves measuring distances, angles in horizontal or vertical directions, and levels to understand the shape and size of land features. Surveying techniques are essential for various tasks, such as identifying the levels of a land area with reference to a specific point, and mapping undulations and water bodies. There are two main types of surveying: plane surveys and geodetic surveys. Plane surveys assume the earth is flat,...

2016

We present a protocol to culture primary murine spiral ganglion neuron explants on multi electrode arrays to study neuronal response profiles and optimize stimulation parameters. Such studies aim to improve the neuron-electrode interface of cochlear implants to benefit hearing in patients as well as the energy consumption of the device.
