Rna Sample Purification

RNA sample purification is a laboratory process that isolates RNA from biological material while removing proteins, DNA, lipids, and other contaminants. It typically combines cell or tissue lysis with RNase inhibition, followed by selective RNA binding to a purification matrix, washing, and elution under controlled conditions; these steps preserve RNA integrity for downstream analysis. In genetics, purified RNA supports gene expression measurements, transcript profiling, reverse transcription, and sequencing, helping researchers compare cellular states, investigate regulation, and identify molecular changes.

Source: Laboratories of Dr. Ian Pepper and Dr. Charles Gerba - The University of Arizona Demonstrating Author: Bradley Schmitz Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) involves the same process as conventional PCR — cycling temperature to amplify nucleic acids. However, while conventional PCR only amplifies deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA), RT-PCR enables the amplification of ribonucleic acids (RNA) through the formation of complementary DNA (cDNA). This enables RNA-based organisms...
