Green Synthesis

Green synthesis is an environmentally conscious approach to producing chemical compounds and nanomaterials with reduced reliance on hazardous reagents, energy, and waste-generating processes. In infection and immunology research, biological materials such as plant extracts, microorganisms, or their metabolites can act as reducing and stabilizing agents, converting metal ions into nanoparticles while limiting aggregation and toxic by-products. These biologically produced materials support investigations of antimicrobial activity, pathogen detection, vaccine delivery, and immune modulation. By combining renewable inputs with simpler processing, green synthesis may improve the biocompatibility and sustainability of tools developed for infectious-disease research and therapeutic applications.

Source: Amber N. Barron, Ashlea Patterson, and Taylor D. Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Hydrogels are a versatile class of cross-linked polymers produced through relatively simple procedures and with generally inexpensive materials. They can be formed from solution and involve a polymer backbone formed from monomer reagents, an initiator which makes the polymer reactive and a crosslinking species which binds the polymer chains...

We describe novel, simple methodologies of synthesis and characterization of biocompatible lignin micro- and submicron particles. These formulations provide a facile approach for the utilization of the heteropolymer, as well as an alternative for the rational design of multifunctional carrier matrices with potential applicability in biomedicine, pharmaceutical technology, and the food industry.

Green Algae

2025

Green algae, also referred to as chlorophytes, are different from red algae in having the chloroplasts containing chlorophylls a and b, which give them their distinct green hue. However, they lack phycobiliproteins, preventing them from developing the red or blue-green pigmentation seen in red algae. In terms of photosynthetic pigment composition, green algae closely resemble plants and share a close evolutionary relationship with them. Taxonomically Green algae belong to Phylum Chlorophyta in...
