Microinjection Infection

Microinjection infection is a laboratory method that introduces an infectious agent or pathogen-derived material directly into a defined cell, tissue, or developing organism, enabling controlled study of infection. Using a fine glass needle and micromanipulator, researchers deliver a measured inoculum to a selected site, bypassing external barriers and reducing variation in exposure. In immunology and infection research, this approach helps link pathogen dose and location to innate immune activation, tissue damage, dissemination, and host survival. It is especially useful for investigating host-pathogen interactions in experimental models, testing microbial virulence, and separating effects of invasion from those caused by environmental exposure.

A Technique to Develop a Parasite Infection in Intestinal Organoids via Microinjection

2025

This video demonstrates a microinjection technique to develop a human intestinal organoid infection model. The infectious sporozoite stage of the parasite Cryptosporidium parvum is microinjected into the organoid lumen. Upon invading the epithelial cells of the organoid, it undergoes asexual and sexual reproduction to complete its life cycle and spreads the infection.

Establishing an Infection Model Through Microinjection of Gastric Organoids with Pathogenic Bacteria

This video demonstrates a method to establish a gastric organoid infection model by microinjecting gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori into the lumen of the organoids. This model helps in studying infection-induced changes in gastric cells.

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

2023

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...

Testing the Physiological Barriers to Viral Transmission in Aphids Using Microinjection

Aphids are effective transmitters of plant viruses. Aphid microinjection of virus, the procedure we will show you today, is a technique allowing researchers to inject virus directly into the hemocoel of the aphid, bypassing the gut, one of the 2 major barriers for virus transmission in a circulative manner. The same technique is also used to inject dsRNA for RNAi.
