Rdna Intergenic Spacer

The rDNA intergenic spacer (IGS) is a noncoding region that separates adjacent ribosomal DNA transcription units within tandemly repeated rDNA arrays. Although it does not encode ribosomal RNA, the IGS can contain regulatory sequences, repetitive elements, and sites that influence rRNA gene transcription through promoter activity and local chromatin organization. Because its sequence and length often vary among species and strains, the IGS provides useful molecular markers for identifying microorganisms, tracing evolutionary relationships, and distinguishing infectious agents. In immunology and infection research, IGS analysis can therefore support pathogen classification, surveillance, and studies of genome organization linked to growth and host adaptation.

A Computational Pipeline for Intergenic/Intragenic Enhancer RNA Quantification in Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells

2025

This protocol provides a streamlined computational pipeline for quantifying nascent enhancer transcripts. By integrating chromatin accessibility, chromatin feature, and transcriptional data, it enables accurate detection and strand-specific analysis of enhancer activity in complex intragenic regions, while remaining accessible to researchers without extensive bioinformatics training.

Most common gut content analyses of macroinvertebrates are visual. Requiring intense knowledge about morphological diversity of prey organisms, they miss soft bodied prey and, due to strong comminution of prey, are nearly impossible for some organisms, including amphipods. We provide detailed, novel genetic approaches for macroinvertebrate prey identification in the diet of amphipods.

2018

Here, we present a protocol for tracing genomic DNA (gDNA) contamination in RNA samples. The presented method utilizes primers specific for the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) genes. The method is suited for reliable and sensitive detection of DNA contamination in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
