Spike Protein Detection

Spike protein detection is the measurement or identification of viral spike proteins, surface molecules that mediate host-cell entry and provide targets for immune recognition. In antibody-based assays, capture or detection antibodies bind specific epitopes on the spike protein, producing a measurable signal through formats such as immunoassays or rapid antigen tests. In immunology and infection research, these measurements support pathogen detection, evaluation of antibody responses, and assessment of vaccine-induced immunity. Comparing spike-protein signals across samples also helps characterize infection, monitor immune protection, and guide the development and validation of diagnostic assays and therapeutic strategies.

(2022)This video demonstrates the use of quantum dot–conjugated spike protein (QD-Spike) to visualize dose-dependent viral entry in ACE2-GFP–expressing cells. Confocal imaging captures the internalization of QD-Spike via receptor-mediated endocytosis, modeling early coronavirus entry.

2009

Ubiquitination is a key posttranslational modification carried out by a set of three enzymes. Mutations of genes involved in this modification are associated with many different human diseases. Here, we describe protocols to detect protein ubiquitination in cultured cells in vivo and test tubes in vitro.
