Staphylococcus Abundance

Staphylococcus abundance is the amount or relative proportion of Staphylococcus bacteria in a biological sample, a measure that helps characterize colonization, microbial communities, and infection risk. It is assessed by culturing samples and counting colony-forming units or by molecular methods that quantify bacterial genetic material; abundance can change as bacteria compete for nutrients, evade host defenses, or respond to antibiotics. In immunology and infection research, comparing abundance across tissues, time points, or treatment groups helps distinguish stable carriage from expansion associated with disease and inflammation. These measurements support studies of host-microbe interactions, infection progression, and therapeutic response.

Lytic phage biosensors and antibody beads are able to discriminate between methicillin resistant (MRSA) and sensitive staphylococcus bacteria. The phages were immobilized by a Langmuir-Blodgett method onto a surface of a quartz crystal microbalance sensor and worked as broad range staphylococcus probes. Antibody beads recognize MRSA.

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) has the capability to disseminate throughout the body, causing persistent and recurrent infections. To better understand these processes, this study establishes an intracellular infection model for S. aureus. This model will provide a crucial foundation for investigating the mechanisms behind intracellular infections.
