Shopping Math

Shopping math is the practical use of mathematical reasoning to compare prices, calculate costs, and make informed purchasing decisions. It involves applying arithmetic, percentages, ratios, and estimation to determine discounts, sales tax, unit prices, totals, change, and spending limits. These skills help shoppers evaluate competing products, recognize the actual value of promotions, plan budgets, and avoid calculation errors at the point of sale. In mathematics education, shopping scenarios connect abstract numerical concepts to everyday decisions while developing financial literacy, proportional reasoning, and problem-solving skills relevant to personal budgeting and consumer economics.

Convolution: Math, Graphics, and Discrete Signals

2024

In any LTI (Linear Time-Invariant) system, the convolution of two signals is denoted using a convolution operator, assuming all initial conditions are zero. The convolution integral can be divided into two parts: the zero-input or natural response and the zero-state or forced response, with t0 indicating the initial time. To simplify the convolution integral, it is assumed that both the input signal and impulse response are zero for negative time values. The graphical convolution process...
