Adjunctive Laser Therapy

Adjunctive laser therapy is the use of laser-generated light alongside a primary medical treatment to enhance tissue management, symptom control, or healing rather than replace standard care. Its effects depend on wavelength, power, exposure time, and tissue properties: energy may be absorbed to produce controlled heating, ablation, coagulation, or photobiomodulation, in which low-intensity light alters cellular signaling. In medicine, clinicians select these parameters to support procedures and manage conditions in areas such as wound care, dermatology, dentistry, and pain treatment. Outcomes depend on treatment protocols, patient factors, and appropriate integration with established therapy, making safety assessment and clinical evidence essential.

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

Begin with an anesthetized human patient with an exposed skull. The patient is diagnosed with an intracranial tumor.Drill into the exposed skull to create a hole, generating an access point.Using stereotactic guidance, insert a laser diffusing fiber or LDF along the predetermined path and secure it in place.Transfer the patient to an MRI scanner and connect the LDF to a laser source.Capture MRI images from multiple angles to visualize the fiber path and the tumor. This confirms the LDF’s...
