Aecopd Patients

AECOPD patients are people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who experience an acute exacerbation, a sudden worsening of respiratory symptoms beyond their usual day-to-day variation; recognizing this clinical state matters because it can rapidly impair breathing and require urgent management. During an exacerbation, increased airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production narrow the airways, worsening airflow limitation and gas exchange. Clinical assessment of dyspnea, cough, sputum changes, oxygenation, and precipitating factors helps guide treatment, determine severity, and identify patients who may need hospitalization. Research involving AECOPD patients supports improved prevention, acute care, and long-term COPD management.
