Anterior Segment Oct

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive imaging technique that produces high-resolution, cross-sectional views of the eye’s front structures, including the cornea, anterior chamber, iris, and lens. It uses low-coherence near-infrared light and interferometric detection to measure backscattered signals from tissue interfaces, generating detailed anatomical images without contact. In medicine, anterior segment OCT supports assessment of corneal thickness and shape, anterior chamber depth, and iridocorneal angles, helping clinicians evaluate glaucoma, corneal disorders, cataracts, and outcomes after refractive or other ocular surgery. Its quantitative imaging can complement clinical examination and improve diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal monitoring.

Open globe eye injuries may go untreated for multiple days in rural or military-relevant scenarios, resulting in blindness. Therapeutics are needed to minimize loss of vision. Here, we detail an organ culture open globe injury model. With this model, potential therapeutics for stabilizing these injuries can be properly evaluated.
